Young Mistakes

Got to enjoy some coverage of the final round of the Jacob's Creek Open this morning. American journeyman Scott Sterling won the event, but the more interesting story was 21 year old Aussie David Lutterus. Lutterus is a member at tourney host Kooyonga CC. With an opportunity to win at the last or go to a playoff, Lutterus took out driver and attempted to drive a 360 yard hole. The arrogance of youth did not pay off as Lutterus ended up in a waste bunker to the right of the hole. He went on to make a bogey and lose the title to Sterling - who laid up and played for par.

Did Lutterus not see where needless aggression gets you? Did he not even try to watch the 2006 US Open at Winged Foot? That was the first thing that popped into my mind on the last hole of the coverage. Apparently, it never passed his mind. The good thing about all of this is that Lutterus is just 21. He has so much time to learn and get better, and he will.
