Golf on TV Scores Low Marks
I'm ripping from another blog here, but Geoff Shackelford will understand. He's at Riviera this week for the Nissan Open (one of the events he travels to each year since he lives in California). He made this post of the Golf Channel's PostGame set at Riviera. Apparently, Golf Channel (dropped "the") is allowed select spectators to have a behind the scenes peek at what goes into a Golf Channel broadcast this week.
I don't question the validity or coolness of the idea. I'm a media buff and I love golf, so that sounds like a good time to me. But, in a recent survey that Golf Digest did, they found that most people do not give high marks to how golf is broadcast on television. Of course, that survey was done before TGC took over the early round coverage of PGA Tour events. But, even still, reviews show that TGC is not doing anything extraordinary with their PGA Tour coverage - just doing a solid, expected job. So, I ask you, as a fan of golf, are you interested in seeing what goes on behind the scenes of golf television that you doesn't impress you?
