Two Events in Some Trouble

One European/Asian Tour event - the Singapore Masters - has been canned. It was scheduled for Valentine's Day weekend. Instead, the Enjoy Jakarta event has been moved up one week.

Meanwhile, in Australia, as expected, Mastercard bailed out as sponsor of the Australian Masters. IMG, the tournament owner, is on the search for a new sponsor.

A kind of glum look on the future of Australian golf was offered in the piece:

"Often in life this is what happens. You have to go to the bottom before you can start building up again. Here you have the risk of not having a 30th Australian Masters," said Australian PGA promoter Tony Roosenburg.

South Australian golf promoter Bob Tuohy, who counts the Australian Ladies Masters and New Zealand Open among the tournaments with which he is involved, also raised concerns over the Masters ability to bounce back.

"I hope the Masters does go on but you're going to find it hard to command that sort of money," Tuohy said.

"It's not easy out there."
