The Difference Between Europe and the US

I was scouring GolfObserver.com, a great place to check out up to the minute stories from all over, and saw this story in the European Tour section. I think it very much summarizes why the Europeans continue to thrash the USA in the Ryder Cup when they are clearly overmatched on paper. (Well, not as much anymore, but you get the idea.)

There are just 1,000 days to go until the start of the biggest event in Welsh sporting history when the 2010 Ryder Cup tees off at Celtic Manor.
Just 1000 days?! I'm having a hard time looking forward to next week, much less my birthday (April 30, gifts welcome), next Christmas (December 25, gifts welcome), or next Inauguration Day (I think January 20, gifts welcome).

The real reason for the hype is because of the almighty...British Pound.
Golf tourism to Wales has greatly increased, it is a way of selling Welsh business – particularly in the United States – and of course it is a chance for fans to watch one of the world’s most dramatic sporting events on their doorstep.

“The economic and business advantages available to Wales from hosting such a high-profile event are already clear,” admitted Rhodri Morgan, First Minister for the Welsh Assembly Government.

“There are opportunities for Welsh companies to supply goods and services to the event itself and obvious advantages to those seeking to raise the profile of Wales as a business and tourism destination in the meantime.

Welsh companies are going to love that weak Dollar! Can you imagine how much it'll be worth in 1000 days?! Sorry for the economics joke.
