If I were to bet, I'd play the field. Something tells me an obscure player, probably from Europe, will take the trophy. Birkdale has a history of unknowns contending. Syd Scott, Mr. Lu, a then unknown Spaniard Seve Ballesteros, Eamon Darcy, Mike Harwood, Raymond Russell and Brian Watts. Then you always seem to have one of these at any Britih Open venue. They usually come in second or third, but they surprise sometimes. Paul Lawrie for example.
If I got to make one of the picks you list, Jim Furyk it is.

The field, for the record, is a 3/2 wager. It's not a bad idea.
Donald WDed with a wrist injury, so is odds are considerably longer--in Tiger territory!
