Lorena Destroys, Qualifies for Hall of Fame

Lorena Ochoa is on the loose and I'm pretty sure not even God could stop her right now. Ochoa demolished the field at the Corona Championship this week in Mexico. She finished on -25 (par 73 layout) and won by a startling 11 shots - for the second time this season. She has won 4 out of 5 starts this year by margins of 11, 7, 5, and 11. Her average margin of victory is 8.25 shots.

Yes, the field that she crushed this week was weak by comparison to her other victories. Still, the win was monumental on another level for Lorena. It was a victory in her home nation of Mexico, where the LPGA Tour now has three events because of her. Even more monumental, though, was the obvious - with the win, Ochoa has acquired 27 Hall of Fame points under LPGA guidelines and has officially qualified for the World Golf Hall of Fame.

The game story from the AP paints a great scene on the last:

Lorena Ochoa wasn't distracted when the fans chanted her name on only the second hole. She stayed focused on her game, even as the crowd grew to thousands by the end of the day.

But by her last stroke on the 18th hole Sunday, the emotions were too much. The Mexican star had just won her third straight tournament and qualified for the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame, all at home, surrounded by family, friends and fans. She was overcome.

"I did fine, but once I was on 18, and had a short putt, everything came into my head," she said. "I'm glad I had a short putt."

That's when the crowd went crazy. Shouts, whistles, songs, they all echoed in the mountain valley. Ochoa held up the Mexican flag, and was sprayed with champagne. A sign hung from a clifftop home read: "Super Lorena," with the insignia of Superman.

Seriously, every time Lorena wins now it seems like it is a huge party. Why can golf not be like this every week?
