The Skins Game: Fred Couples' ATM

I don't normally link to general sports blogs, but The Angry T has a great summary of Boom Boom's all time performance at the Skins Game. With another $325K at this year's rendition, Freddy Couples is now over the $4,000,000 mark all time at the silly season staple. Here's his year by year performance:

1992 - $210,000 (Second)
1993 - $260,000 (Second)
1994 - $170,000 (Second)
1995 – $270,000 (Winner)
1996 - $280,000 (Winner)
1998 - $150,000 (Third)
1999 - $635,000 (Winner)
2000 - $125,000 (Fourth)
2002 - $170,000 (Third)
2003 - $605,000 (Winner)
2004 - $640,000 (Winner)
2005 - $0 (Last)
2006 - $385,000 (Second)
2007 - $325,000 (Second)

Consider that Fred Couples - injuries and all - had only made a little over $43K to this point in the year. Can you imagine being able to work for two days each year and pull in somewhere around $200,000? Talk about workman's comp!

The amazing thing is that Stephen Ames - the now 2 time reigning champion of the soon to be defunct Skins Game - was quoted as saying that there is no particular type of game that is best suited for the format.

But then he admitted the truth: "The guy that makes a lot of birdies is probably the guy that is going to be suited for it. Freddie is a classic example of that, because he makes a lot of birdies."
