Dream Match?!

The Canadian golf journalists covering the President's Cup seem to be convinced that Mike Weir taking on Tiger Woods in the Sunday singles' matches would be the dream match of the week. They're not even close to right from a global perspective. Really, their judgment is clouded by their nationality.

From a Canadian perspective, it makes perfect sense that the legendary Masters champion from the Great White North should take on the world's greatest player in Canadia. But US Americans, and the rest of the golfing world, is probably much more interested in seeing Tiger beat the snot out of Rory Sabbatini - the guy who has been consistently talking trash about Woods and then getting it handed to him on the course.

Mike Weir was a Captain's Pick, and a controversial one at that. He has been making swing changes and is just starting to find his form again. Yes, he is the best native born Canadian golfer and he is on the Internationals team. That does not mean we should make the automatic leap to serve him up against the world's best on his home stage.

Besides, the last time we "got what we wanted" in terms of matchups, Hal Sutton put Tiger and Phil on the same team. We all know how that turned out :(
