Ochoa is Dominant
If that's not the understatement of the week, I don't know what is. ("Alberto Gonazalez was a bad AG"?) The clear POU (Player of the Universe) has won in three consecutive weeks now in three countries. She is just two victories away from tying the LPGA mark for consecutive wins. Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam currently hold that mark. Ochoa also has shattered the single season earnings record that Annika Sorenstam set just a couple of years ago. Lorena has failed to make less than $1 million in a season just once: her rookie year. The world number 1 has set several milestones this year, including a major championship, winning in a playoff for the first time, and obviously taking over the number one spot in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings. It's been a good year.
Earlier in the season, I was tough on Lorena after she let it slip away at Mission Viejo, Pine Needles, and some other events in between. It looked like she was a paper number one. But, I do remember mentioning several times that Lorena's career progresses with climbs then short pleateaus. It is clear that she has reached incredibly high on the mountain this year, especially in just the last month. The question now is where the peak may be for Ochoa. For the foreseeable future (the rest of 2007), the LPGA Tour is on autopilot when Ochoa is in the field. Does that lead into the 2008 season where a discussion of a Lorenaslam is a possibility? We shall see...
